Welcome to Forest Glen
Forest Glen is a dream come true for nature lovers because of its easy access to beautiful parks and forest preserves. Tucked away on the northwest side of Chicago, this mostly residential area is adjacent to the sprawling green space that surrounds the North Branch of the Chicago River.
Forest Glen comprises the neighborhoods of Forest Glen, Edgebrook, and Sauganash, with sub-neighborhoods of Sauganash Park, Wildwood, North Edgebrook, and Old Edgebrook.
Interestingly, many of the side streets in Forest Glen are dead ends and drop residents directly into forest preserves. You can’t get much closer than that!
This area has miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing ponds, picnic areas, and much more. The stunning Forest Glen Woods is a beautiful 15-acre nature preserve that is home to a variety of wildlife. Bunker Hill Forest Preserve features spots for picnicking in prairie and groves along with hiking and biking paths. The Sidney Yates Flatwoods is a peaceful, leafy area along the river, with unpaved walking trails.
And that’s not all! The neighborhood is also home to LaBagh Woods and the North Park Village Nature Center, where you can explore the great outdoors and soak up the natural beauty of the area.
There’s even two golf courses - the Edgebrook Golf Course, a scenic 18-hole public golf course operated by the Chicago Park District and the Billy Caldwell Golf Course which boasts 9 holes.
Local, family-owned eateries dominate the dining scene in Forest Glen and range from formal to casual. Some have live performances for entertainment, and many offer kid-friendly menus. Cafes and bars offer late-night bites or a refined place to grab a drink.
Forest Glen is well-connected to the rest of the city. Working residents can easily commute from two stops on the Metra or hop the Blue Line to the city or O'Hare. The Edens is also convenient for drivers.
Forest Glen Real Estate
Single-family home styles dominate the real estate market in Forest Glen and range from classic single-story Chicago bungalows, charming cottages, and mid-century ranches to historic and well-maintained Tudor Georgian homes. There are also some row homes and multi-unit options.
